Pre-university programmes that bridge the gap between secondary school and university, and prepare students for university.
Retailing is a very large and diverse industry that contributes significantly to the overall economy, as well as something that we as consumers experience regularly as part of our everyday lives. In 2012, the retail trade industry comprised about 21,300 establishments and total operating receipts generated by the retail trade industry amounted to S$42.2 billion. Moreover, total value added of the retail trade industry reached S$6.1 billion.
Understandably, the retail industry attracts a lot of attention from the government, the media and consumer groups. In recent years, retailers have had to deal with increased levels of competition, the growth of the Internet, new forms of technology and consumers who are looking for better value together with higher quality service. As a result, retailers require professionally well-trained managers with the necessary skills to tackle and meet these challenges.
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Retail Marketing programme is developed and awarded by the University of Stirling, Scotland. Offered at SIM, this two-year full-time/part-time programme is for qualified applicants working or intending to work in the retail industry.
