Bachelor of Education (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) (BTCSL) – New Era

Pre-university programmes that bridge the gap between secondary school and university, and prepare students for university.

The rise of China and the “One Belt One Road” policy has ignited a “Mandarin fever” for the past the years, and the trend is likely to continue in the future regardless of whether it is brought about by economic needs or sheer interest in Chinese culture. Around a hundred private schools (International and foreign schools) have included Chinese in their curriculum; some of them make Chinese a compulsory subject.

According to the data of The New York China Press dated January 2016, there are over a hundred million people in 134 countries who learn Chinese as a second language.

Speaking Chinese and teaching Chinese are two different things. Non-native speakers of Chinese learn the language in different ways. As such, there is a high demand worldwide for people who can speak and teach the language to non-native speakers of Chinese.
