For many Malaysians, it means an avenue to getting a quality overseas education in a safe and modern country that is close to home. Singapore’s rich multicultural heritage, cosmopolitan community and vibrant economy make it an attractive education hub. Why study in Singapore?

For 21-year-old Collin Shieu from Sibu, SIM Global Education (SIM GE), an educational brand under the Singapore Institute of Management, was the clear choice to pursue a tertiary qualification. Collin graduated from SMK Sacred Heart in Sibu before going to Singapore to take up his Diploma in Management Studies.

Collin says, “Singapore is a safe and clean place. The life here is like living in a developed city with lots of facilities.”

“I first heard about SIM GE from my friend. Studying at SIM GE offers the opportunity to know students from across the world and understand their diverse cultures. An SIM GE diploma qualification also offers us many pathways to degrees from reputable universities.”

Why choose SIM GE?

SIM GE partners with more than 10 established overseas universities such as the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, University of London, RMIT University, University of Wollongong, University of Birmingham, and University of Southampton. Students will find that the degree programmes offered in SIM GE are the same standard as those offered in the university’s home campus, and typically at a lower cost than if they were to study in the United Kingdom or Australia. Another advantage is that students have the best of both worlds as many of the programmes are taught by both local lecturers and international faculty, combining Asian perspectives with international practices.

Collin was a top student in his diploma cohort, and was  awarded an SIM GE Scholarship to take up the University of London’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Accounting and Finance programme. The SIM GE Scholarship, which has no bond and covers the full tuition fees, is awarded to outstanding students to pursue Bachelor’s degree programmes at SIM GE.

SIM GE students can choose from over 70 students clubs for a fulfilling campus life

How does SIM GE enrich students’ experiences beyond the classroom?

SIM GE’s campus is equipped with the latest technology and facilities to enhance students’ learning experience. The student-centric campus is enabled with high-speed wireless Internet access.  Besides a comprehensive management library, there are also many indoor and outdoor study areas. Students’ leisure needs are also factored into the campus design. There are several campus eateries including a Starbucks outlet, a student lounge and gymnasium. Place of pride are a new performing arts theatre, a sports hub and a real-time financial training centre.

Students’ experiences are also enriched with year-round activities from more than 70 student clubs. Collin, who enjoys an active student life, is involved in a variety of co-curricular activities such as the Malaysia Community in SIM (MCSIM), SIM Dancesport Club and the Badminton Club. “I wanted to enrich my school life and make it more meaningful and memorable. Through MCSIM, I also got to know friends from other states of Malaysia.”

Besides student clubs’ activities, there is also a Global Learning programme which offers students opportunities to gain overseas exposure from summer courses to global internships and overseas community work.

Heng Ying Zhao, 24, is one student who seized the opportunity. The banking and finance student, who graduated from SMK Infant Jesus Convent in Johor Bahru, says, “My one-month SIM Summer Abroad programme was truly an enriching and unforgettable experience. Being immersed into the Korean culture, although just for a month, makes everything different and we also got to bond with students from all over the world.”

Through such activities, SIM GE students gain exposure, build community bonds and network that will benefit them later in life.
