JCF exchanges MoA with the University of Cambridge’s Gonville and Caius College to have two Sunway University staff immerse in the Cambridge experience
Sunway University, through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), and the University of Cambridge deepened their relationship on September 10, 2018, through the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) allowing for two exceptional staff per year from Sunway University to study at the University of Cambridge for four weeks, in perpetuity.
Jeffrey Cheah Foundation’s Founding Trustee and Sunway University’s Chancellor, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO and the University of Cambridge’s Master of Gonville and Caius College, Professor Sir Alan Fersht FRS, exchanged the signed MoA documents at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa to commence the programme.
“The establishment of the Scholars-in-Residence programme will further deepen the relationship between Sunway University and the University of Cambridge, which has allowed for a robust exchange of ideas between our two institutions since we first linked up in 2014,” said Cheah.
“Under this programme, there will be tremendous opportunity for Sunway University’s faculty members to gain experience in a highly research-intensive environment. It offers them an opportunity to engage with and learn from leading researches, and have access to the great libraries and laboratories of a world-renowned university and in their return produce world-class Malaysian graduates that will contribute to the sustainable progress of Malaysia,” added Cheah.
“I am delighted that the relationship between Gonville and Caius College, the University of Cambridge and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation is to be further enhanced by the establishment of the Jeffrey Cheah Scholar-in-Residence programme, through which we look forward to welcoming the very best academics from Sunway Education Group to undertake research in Cambridge,” said Fersht.
